The University of Bristol’s Dental School will move to a new site in central Bristol in 2023 after outgrowing its existing premises at the Dental Hospital where it has been based for many years.

With this move, the school aims to deliver enhancements to the quality of clinical education along with significant improvements to student, staff, and patient experience.

In 2022 the school set out to procure several IT systems to support the clinical practice elements of the school. After a detailed procurement process, the University of Bristol has awarded the Patient Management System contract to Titanium Solutions, with their product Salud.

Salud will manage interactions with patients digitally, including a full record of all interactions with the patient, treatment planning, booking of appointments and clinics, digital access to scans and images, patient letters and other documents associated with the patient or their treatment.

Over 700 users will use the system, which will be deployed via Azure, in a customer specific cloud instance managed by Titanium.

‘’We’re thrilled to be working with the team at University of Bristol on this exciting new chapter for the Dental School. With a world leading product, and our team’s extensive oral health education experience, we’ll deliver a modern and innovative solution to meet the evolving needs of the Dental School. “said Áine Hayes – Global Head of Marketing, Titanium Solutions.

The winning system

Salud is a modern web-based solution designed from inception as an enterprise solution for Dental Schools worldwide.

Extreme flexibility in the software configuration allows customers to effectively adjust their data collection and business processes. This makes it a software that matches customer needs, which is crucial for large Dental Schools with very specialised requirements.

With flexibility at its core, Salud can be deployed On-Premises or on Azure/AWS.

Titanium Solutions are leading the way in this field as they offer customers cloud deployment with a customer specific cloud instance.

Now operating as a global group, the company has achieved some significant milestones, including this project for the Australian Defence Force.

Leidos Australia has been awarded a contract by the Department of Defence to deliver a health knowledge management system to support healthcare services across the ADF under Joint Project 2060 Phase 4.

The contract value is $299 million. Work has started on the project, with initial operating capability planned for November 2023 and final operating capability in 2025.

The health knowledge management system will replace the ADF’s legacy electronic health record product with a ‘modern, patient-centric health solution’. The company says the new system will record, store, aggregate and analyse health data and information for the ADF population, unifying multidisciplinary primary and occupational care with emergency and hospital care to enable better clinical decision-making.

For the first time, an electronic health solution will be delivered into the deployed environment to record the delivery of healthcare by ADF clinicians from point of injury throughout the evacuation chain into rehabilitation and recovery. According to Leidos, this will ensure all relevant clinical information can be recorded and included in a member’s health record to facilitate appropriate, on-going care.

• Precision Medical, an Australian provider of software that monitors, traces and reports on medical assets; and

Leidos Australia says it will also be engaging: Cerner, an American supplier of health information technology services, devices and hardware; OutSystems, a low code solution platform providing case management and a compensation portal; and QlikTech Australia, an Australian supplier of business intelligence solutions.

“Leidos Australia looks forward to working with Defence and our team of exceptional health sector partners to deliver this critical capability to the ADF,” Leidos Australia Chief Executive Paul Chase said. “Our team’s health expertise, as well as Leidos’ vast Defence experience, will deliver a modern, sovereign solution that will meet the evolving healthcare needs of the ADF.”

Emotional dentistry – presenting treatment options and progress to your patient

Emotional dentistry – presenting treatment options and progress to your patient

For any dental treatment, the dialogue between the professional and the patient is decisive to find the most appropriate treatment and achieve the best result.

Emotional dentistry focuses on establishing effective and beneficial communication for both parties, which results in greater patient satisfaction. Some of the pillars of this technique is the practice of active listening, and patient participation.

Salud Dental Management System has features to assist patients in seeing and understanding the treatment options and prices offered, and It also provides the patient and dental professional an overview of the treatment plan progress.

Salud Periodontal Chart:

On the left-hand side of your screen, you can see the Salud scoring categories that can be easily expanded out.

Once all information is plotted in Salud, we can check the overall score and the graphic view.

The graph view in Salud can be used as a patient education tool, where dental professionals can present all information to the patient and show the treatment progress.

In Salud, you can also easily view a comparison over time, where you can easily select any periodontal scoring category to check the patient progress.

Emotion is key – building connections with patients

Practising emotional intelligence in a dental organisation is increasingly necessary. Today, patients are looking for professionals who can listen to their needs and present practical solutions to their problems. The patients want to be fully informed and equipped to make decisions about their treatment.

Here are some tips for building a good connection with your patients:

  • Listen carefully to what the patients mean, not just what they say.
  • Empathise with patients’ struggles.
  • Offer encouragement to your patient.
  • Encourage patient participation.

Presenting treatment options to the patient to choose from is an excellent way to build a trusting relationship.

In Salud, after the patient receives the dentist’s diagnosis, different treatment options can be presented to the patient.

Salud has easy drag and drop functionality for creating treatment plan options. The patient can clearly see the treatments within each plan, and the cost associated. Once your patient has considered their options, they can digitally sign consent for their preferred plan.

Dentists use a wide variety of strategies to have some emotional connection with the patient. Listening carefully to patients and understanding their necessities is essential; the use of technologies can assist your organisation in facilitating these connections.
